Concentric vs Eccentric Butterfly Valve Designs
Concentric (zero-offset) butterfly valves feature a disc centered in the bore with the stem running through the center of the disc and seating against a resilient elastomeric seat. Double-offset (high-performance) butterfly valves have a stem positioned behind and to one side of the disc centerline, which causes the disc to cam away from the seat immediately upon opening. This eccentric geometry greatly reduces seat wear and improves the sealing capability to Class IV or V levels. Triple-offset butterfly valves add a third offset by angling the seating surface, creating a torque-seated metal seal that provides bubble-tight Class VI shut-off and fire-safe performance suitable for oil, gas, and steam applications.

Double-flanged butterfly valves feature full flanges on both sides of the body, providing maximum structural integrity for large-diameter, high-pressure installations.
